I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and enjoys a phenominal 2012!

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to Blog more! There is so much happening this year to look forward too! Here are a few updates:

First, Lorne is doing very well. Now about 7 months old and feeling frisky in the chilly air. He has been a pleasure to work with and have home with me! I do all sorts of things to get him exposed to the world - but my favorite is going for a stroll with him down the road. We walk away from the farm and other horses and walk back - get used to neighbor cars driving past and the different objects on the side of the road (like running water down the ditch or reflectors and signs). He is really not afraid of much and when he pretends to be, it is more playful than anything else and/or his attempt to change subjects and make what we are doing extremely exciting.

We keep sessions short and sweet. He has been tying, cross-tying, standing for the farrier to trim his cute feet, doing ground work, bathes and clippers, learning about horses riding by him, walking/trotting and halt and back-ups in hand, head down when asked, stepping up onto things and over poles on the ground, and more. I let him tell me when he is ready for something new and more, and it is just amazing watching the learning curve change on a young horse again. I enjoy it so much. He really likes to go do stuff! Smart boy and so great to work with. I just love him. Fellow horses in the barn all check on him and are fascinated with his antics of running, bucking and leaping in his pasture.

Rori, has been coming along lovely in training. She is enjoying cross-training into some jumping in prep for the Holsteiner mare approvals. She is starting to play with some second level work now too. It is fun to work with a horse that my family and I raised - and is very satisfying. It has kept me busy after the sale on Anton, whom I miss dearly, but who is doing very well teaching his new mom the ropes.

Plans for all sorts of shows this year - Stay tuned!

Lorne has arrived!

Weaned and home finally to be with me! Lorne is doing fantastic on his arrival home finally after a successful easy weaning after the Holsteiner approvals. I am pleased to have him so close to me daily now!

Rori is coming along nicely in her work. She is stronger every day and loving her cross training in jumping currently that has been recently started. Incredible mind to work with daily and I love working with her.

I want to congratulate Ashley and Candy from Ellensburg area on their successful jump show last weekend. Won some classes and had a great time! I am so proud and can't wait to see what the future holds for you!!!

I am going to try and make weekly updates going forward and wish everyone a safe winter season and Happy Holidays this 2011.

Wonderful weekend at Wild Turkey Farm in Wilsonville, OR! The farm hosted the 2011 AHHA Approvals for the NW this past Sunday to great success. There was a incredible turnout of about 30 horses ranging in ages to be presented to the judges and a crowd of Holsteiner fans.

We picked up Lorne and his dam Tanner from Fox Fire Farm, and gave them quick bathes just before loading them up and heading South on Saturday. No traffic was a wonderful start to the trip as it was Lorne's first trailer trip and outing. He handled it beautifully! We arrived and settled the horses in, then enjoyed a nice warm afternoon at the beautiful farm with a handful of others who had already arrived too... most of them with Limoncello II foals as well! Darren Shaw photographed the Limoncello II Fan Club as we called it. Wonderful evening!

Woke up Sunday morning to braid Tanner and Lorne for inspection, then spent the morning watching the Mares go through their presentation. After lunch, Lorne went into the ring, stood politely for the judges, then moved around the ring beautifully at liberty with a incredible trot (video posted soon) at one point in complete sync with his mother! The judges read off the scores - 8 on Conformation, and 8 on gaits receiving Premium Foal status and qualifying him for the Futurity. Yeah!!! I was so very proud - and then the breeder, Karen Reid, walked out to congratulate us and pet her mare for a job well done. Brandings were quick and easy for Lorne following that, and we loaded up to head home. Again, to NO TRAFFIC! Thank goodness! Lorne was all tuckered out from a eventful learning experience for him and was taken home to Fox Fire Farm safe and sound. More pictures and video coming soon.

AHHA Approvals are on the way for the Northwest, and will be held at Wild Turkey Farm in Wilsonville, OR on September 25th. Lots of great horses in attendance it sounds like for inspection! Interested in learning about Holsteiners? Check out http://www.holsteiner.com.

Congratulations to Sami on the purchase of Kody! You two are going to have so much fun together!

I have started Yoga as part of regular workouts away from horses and love it! Great benefits to horse riders and really makes a difference in range of motion, balance, and overall well-being. Highly recommend it!

Northwest Equine Stewardship is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the horses of Dutch Mills Farm that recently burned down. The funds will be donated to the 3 surviving horses of the fire to cover needed vet care and any additional will be saved for future horses in need. Erin Morris Dressage has donated 7 lessons for auction to benefit these wonderful horses.

Lorne joins the Highland Sport Horses family August 2011! Lorne is by Limoncello II out of Tanner (a Ariadus/Locato Mare). Bred by Karen Reid of Fox Fire Farm. Erin is very excited for the future of this young one! He will be one to watch!
